Madison VA Research IPA/WOC HelpDesk: The Madison VA and UW RSP have streamlined the process for requesting intergovernmental personnel agreements (IPA) and without compensation (WOC) appointments. which provides (1) a public facing platform for making IPA or WOC requests, (2) a mechanism for sharing relevant documentation between the VA and University, and (3) automated notifications for status updates and action items.

Jennie Bell, Campus Effort Compliance Manager will give us a presentation on Effort Commitments and Payroll Certification. This will include roles and responsibilities of the campus effort compliance manager and compensation compliance coordinators; reminders, requests, and tips for the current certification period; and all things effort and ECC related.

Then the RSP ERA team will share new custom reporting content along with tips and tricks for navigating list reports in RAMP. The ERA team also wants to invite discussion on what new reports would help focus and streamline department workflows.

The September Research Administrator Network Meeting will include two guests:
- In February, the Chancellor announced the creation of a new grant support office to provide services for UW researchers who are pursuing large, interdisciplinary sustainability grants. The Sustainability Research Hub. Melanie Hebl (Collaboration Specialist) and Elizabeth Runde (Research Administrator) will join us to share in more detail what the Sustainability Research Hub is up to and how we can work together in the future to help make UW-Madison a preeminent destination for environmental sustainability research and education.

November 19, 2024
Join us Tuesday November 19 for the November RAN meeting to hear about the upcoming changes with NIH adopting the commons forms.
We will hear from:
- Jennifer Rodis, Director of Strategic Support, Research and Sponsored Programs
- Paije Wilson, Health Sciences Librarian, Ebling Library
- Trisha Adamus, Research Data Librarian, Ebling Library
NIH will adopt the Common Forms for the Biosketch and Current and Pending (Other) Support in May 2025. With this adoption comes a number of changes, including a brand-new form (Biographical Sketch Supplement), a requirement to use SciENcv, and a requirement for Senior/Key Personnel to enter their ORCiD ID into SciENcv. Come learn about the pending changes and the services that UW Libraries offer to help with this transition. There will also be a brief demo of SciENcv and ORCiD during the presentation.

Nick Novak, Amber Jensen and Steve Flaherty from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education will discuss navigation of limited submission opportunities for external funding. Procedure for external grant programs that limit the number of proposal submissions per campus will be reviewed. This will include discussion of what do to if your PI is interested in a limited submission opportunity, where these opportunities are posted and who is responsible for the process. Finally, we will discuss sponsor specific guidelines related to limited submission opportunities.
We will talk about RAMP, the RSP training website and resources, and open the conversation to you all.

The federal export control laws and regulations can impact many aspects of the research mission at UW-Madison, including from whom we buy items, who we collaborate with, where we can ship items, when we need to get export licenses and when to manage information for projects containing sensitive information. This training will discuss the key export control regulations, non-compliances, what contract clauses to look out for and what activities may require review from the Export Control Office.
