Important Leave Change Information
Affects all leave eligible (US, AS, FA, LI) positions
Effective 12/3/25, the UW-Madison Sick, Vacation, and Personal and Legal Holidays policies were updated to reflect a change in the administration of paid leave. Moving forward, any exchanges to the paid leave types mentioned above must be completed by the end of the second pay period following the absence, or before the end of the fiscal year, whichever is sooner. Changes to leave outside of the deadlines may be permitted if the changes are associated with a Worker’s Compensation or disability claim.
Please note that with the implementation of the updated leave policies outlined above, the annual ICI Sick Leave Swap exercise will no longer take place. This process has been discontinued to align with the new policy framework. All sick leave will now be managed under the updated guidelines described in paragraph one.
This change has been made at the Universities of Wisconsin level and will be implemented across all campuses. Please review the following policies for additional detail. You can also contact your Payroll & Benefits contact for additional questions.
