GWIMS Awards

Each year, The UW SMPH Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) accepts nominations for the annual UW SMPH GWIMS Awards. These awards are presented at our annual Women in Medicine & Science Symposium. The GWIMS Symposium takes place in either late November or early December.

Opening date for the 2025 GWIMS Awards nomination submissions is August 6, 2025. Deadline to submit nominations is September 30, 2025.

Please send nomination materials to the SMPH GWIMS email address, gwims@med.wisc.edu.

Please see specifics, below, for this year’s awards nomination criteria. Awards are open to all faculty.

GWIMS Impact Awards: A nominee’s contributions could be in any area – advocacy, clinical work, education, research, program development, administration, community involvement, faculty development, etc., and will be evaluated based on evidence of ongoing and substantive impact in one of these areas of academic medicine and science. Three Impact awardees will be selected annually — we aim to honor the work of GWIMS members at all ranks and all tracks with these awards.

GWIMS Advancing Faculty in Medicine and Science Award: This award is to recognize scholarship or advocacy work specifically advancing faculty in medicine and science.

GWIMS Excellence in Mentorship Award: This award is to recognize sustained and effective mentorship in advancing the careers of faculty in medicine and science.

GWIMS/BIRCWH Scientists Health Research Mentorship Award: This award is to recognize impactful mentorship of scientists fostering successful careers in women’s health and sex/gender differences research. The award is co-sponsored by the UW BIRCWH Program.

All nominees must be UW SMPH GWIMS members. If you have someone in mind who is not currently a member, please encourage them to join by completing the membership form link on the GWIMS Intranet.
