Add Events to the SMPH Website
School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) faculty and staff are encouraged to add events to the calendar on the public website. Here’s a quick guide on how to do this.
Log In and Create a New Event
Event listings are managed through the UW–Madison events calendar. Go there and click the submit an event link on the upper-right corner of the screen. NetID login is required.
After logging in, you’ll see a dashboard where you can add new events. Events you have previously entered also will be listed here, allowing you to make changes. To create a new event, click add new event.

Add the Event Information
This is where you can add specific details. Please be sure to fill out these fields, at a minimum, to ensure the information displays well on the school’s events calendar.
Required for Display on the SMPH Website
- Title: The name of the event. This is a required field.
- Description: Use this field to enter a synopsis and the full names of event speakers. No need to add the date and time here. Those go in separate fields.
- Share event with campus? Leave this checked.
- Date, time and location
- Tags: This step is critical. You must add the “smph” or “SMPH” tag for your event to appear on the SMPH website calendar. If you don’t, it will only appear in the main campus calendar. For seminars and symposia, also add the “seminar” or “symposium” tag.
Note: The subtitle field is not displayed on med.wisc.edu. Make sure the presenter’s full name is in the description.
Save the Event: Posts Require Review
Click the save button. After saving an event, it will not immediately show in the calendar. University Communications must first approve the entry. This process may take a couple of hours.
