Graduate Education Policy Council (GEPC)

SMPH has two school-level curriculum committees: the Educational Policy and Curriculum Committee (EPCC) and the Graduate Education Policy Council (GEPC).

The GEPC detailed on this page is responsible for Basic Science courses and courses related to the SMPH graduate programs (PhD/MS). The GEPC is also responsible for any undergraduate courses proposed by an SMPH department/program.

On the other hand, the EPCC oversees curriculum planning and educational policy for courses and programs in the health professions programs, including MD, PA, DPT, Genetic Counseling, and MPH.

Committee membership

The Associate Dean for Basic Research Training is the chair of the GEPC. GEPC members are nominated by a department chair or program director.

Faculty in the following basic science departments are eligible to serve on the GEPC: Population Health Sciences, Neuroscience, Medical History and Bioethics, Medical Physics, Biomolecular Chemistry, Medical Genetics, Cell and Regenerative Biology, Oncology, Medical Microbiology and Immunology, and Biostatistics and Medical Informatics. Members serve a staggered three-year term.

All course proposals—new courses and changes to existing courses—must be reviewed and approved by the GEPC. The GEPC follows these guidelines when reviewing a course proposal.
