The Office of Fiscal Affairs provides fiscal and administrative support to more than 50 departments, centers, institutes and administrative units within the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
The office also provides assistance for a variety of funding types, including school funding, grants, gifts and recharge funds.

Designed to streamline and standardize financial processes, education, and training, the SMPH Fiscal KnowledgeBase (KB) offers a one-stop shop for key fiscal guidance from UW–Madison and UW Health, ensuring clarity, consistency, and efficiency across departments and units.

Content is organized into six modules:
- Accounting Entries, Transfers & Gifts

The initial release focuses on UW–Madison processes required for Workday go-live. Future updates will expand UW content and introduce UW Health content across all modules, beginning with Accounts Payable & Expenses. Further communication will be shared as new resources become available.

Management, Reporting, and Budgeting
The financial management and reporting team provides accounting related tasks, prepares financial and statistical reports, provides training to others, assists with the annual budget preparation, and ensures accurate reporting of the business unit’s financial transactions.
Financial Transactions
The fiscal transaction team primarily handles processes involving funds being received or being spent, and serves as the subject matter experts for campus financial policies and procedures.
Fiscal Forums
Fiscal Forums are held bi-monthly in January, March, May, July, September, and November of the year. These sessions provide information and updates regarding fiscal policies and procedures.
