McIntosh to serve as acting dean

Gwenevere McIntosh, MD, MPH, associate dean for students, will become acting senior associate dean for Academic Affairs on Nov. 1. She succeeds Elizabeth Petty, MD, who will retire Nov. 13.

In her acting role, McIntosh will provide leadership continuity and coordinate key priorities for Academic Affairs until a permanent leader joins the school. SMPH will launch a search for that leader soon.

McIntosh, an alumna of the SMPH MD program, has worked in medical education for more than two decades and has held leadership roles since 2013. She will stay involved in medical student life and will continue to support all SMPH student programs, now at a broader level.

“This work has been incredibly meaningful, and I hope to return to it in the future,” McIntosh said of her time as associate dean for students.

Three other leaders have expanded their roles to support the interim structure:

  • Sam Lubner, MD, assistant dean for students, will take on more responsibilities in Student Services.
  • Shobhina Chheda, MD, MPH, associate dean for medical education, will serve as senior advisor to the dean, focusing on medical education and accreditation.
  • Ryan Tsuchida, MD, assistant dean for multicultural affairs, will chair a triage committee and oversee policies and practices associated with ensuring the learning environment is free from mistreatment. He will also oversee Community Service Programs/MEDiC.
