UW School of Medicine and Public Health completes LCME site visit

Last week, the school completed its Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) site visit, marking a significant milestone in the school’s reaccreditation process for its Doctor of Medicine program. The visit reflected years of preparation and broad participation across the entire school, including statewide campus locations.

More than 100 faculty, staff, trainees and volunteers contributed to the effort, participating in 20 separate sessions with the LCME survey team. Participants collectively devoted countless hours to preparing documentation, presenting information and responding to questions about the school’s educational programs, learning environment and institutional mission.

It takes a village

Those involved represented a wide cross‑section of the school community, including education and student services leaders, department chairs, and school and health system leadership. The site visit also showcased the strength and engagement of learners and trainees at multiple stages of training.

Among the participants were:

• 25 medical and dual degree students, who took part in sessions with the survey team
• 14 representatives from the statewide campus, who together traveled more than 3,200 miles to attend the visit, many for multiple days
• 11 junior faculty members and 14 residents, who highlighted the school’s academic and clinical training environments
• 24 volunteers from across the school, who supported logistics and coordination throughout the visit
• Numerous additional contributors serving on subcommittees and workgroups who helped prepare materials and ensure readiness for the survey

Thank you to core individuals

Leadership for the site visit was provided by the education accreditation and compliance team. Jessica Gould, LCME survey team coordinator, and Megan Heneke, director of education accreditation and compliance, played central roles in planning and execution.

Elizabeth Petty, MD, senior associate dean for academic affairs, and Christie Seibert, MD, associate dean for medical student education and services, served as co‑faculty accreditation leads and provided key leadership throughout the accreditation process.

During the visit, LCME surveyors frequently noted the professionalism, preparation and engagement shown by participants across sessions.

Information about the accreditation outcome and next steps will be shared once available. In the meantime, the completion of the site visit represents an important benchmark in the school’s continuous improvement and accreditation journey.
