Nicole Senter, Department Administrator

Nicole SenterWhat is your current position?

Department Administrator for the Department of Medical History and Bioethics in SMPH.

When did you start working in SMPH? What about at UW?

July 2022 is when I started in my role in SMPH. I started at UW in July 2014 (Political Science, Payroll and Benefits).

What does a typical day look like for you?

As a DA, not much is typical. A little social media, a pinch of website maintenance, maybe a side of event planning. And, there are the budgets, curriculum, expense reports, and purchasing, too!

What is your workplace superpower?

Organization. I am really great at organizing anything – and figuring out what works best for each group I work with.

What is something personal you keep on your desk?

I have a zombie head filled with a plant that kind of looks like brains.

Where are you from originally?

Prairie du Chien in Southwestern WI – grew up riding my bike to the Mississippi and hiking up at Wyalusing Park.

What is your favorite place to spend time in Madison? In the world?

I really like to go to Vintage and grab a beer in Madison. In the world is hard to answer since I have not had many chances to get out of Wisconsin. But I have visited New Mexico, and I loved the open and rocky landscape. I would move there in a heartbeat.

What are you reading right now? (Alternatively: What 1-2 books, articles, or podcasts, can you recommend to your SMPH colleagues?)

I am a romance reader – my favorite author is Auryn Hadley. She writes about real people and relationships – but places a lot of it in a fantasy. Her new series is called the Ruins of Men – and it has dragons and humans living alongside each other, in a post-apocalyptic society.

Share one fact about yourself that you co-workers might not be aware of.

Even though my spouse and I are empty nesters and have plenty of quiet time – I really love to solo camp with my two rescue pups, Harper and Sym. It’s just nice to get out there and challenge myself to do something different. I like to time myself to see how long it takes to start the fire. 😊
