The SMPH Space Management Policy was approved by the Vice Chancellor for Medical Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine and Public Health, effective July 27, 2026. As a leading academic medical center, SMPH is committed to supporting its mission through the efficient use of space.

The SMPH Dean holds overall responsibility for space allocation across SMPH units, in accordance with the SMPH Space Management Policy. The Dean has delegated authority to the SMPH Strategic Space Utilization (SSU) Office to manage and process all space allocation requests.

SMPH unit leadership, or their unit leader delegate, may submit space allocation requests on behalf of their unit through the SMPH Strategic Space Utilization (SSU) Office portal.

All space requests must first be reviewed by unit leadership. If leadership determines that a unit’s current space allocation is no longer suitable, they — or their unit leader delegate — may submit a formal request to the SMPH Strategic Space Utilization (SSU) Office.

Per the SMPH Space Management Policy, individual SMPH units are responsible for making internal space assignments in accordance with their own procedures, subject to review and approval by the SMPH Dean/SSU Office. All requests for space assignment should be directed to the appropriate unit leadership for internal review.

Spaces (FM Systems), available through Qlik Sense, is now live and can generate space reports for individual units. For training, questions, or to submit updates, email Becky Barnes.

Instructional space is managed by SMPH Classroom and AV Services. All instructional space needs take priority over other reservation requests.

The SMPH Space Committee serves as an inclusive, schoolwide forum for presenting, discussing, and collaboratively addressing space-related matters. All SMPH units are encouraged to designate a representative to attend and engage on their unit’s behalf.

Unit leadership or their designated delegate may participate. To be added to or removed from the committee, email Becky Barnes, Assistant Director of Strategic Space Utilization (SSU).
