The School of Medicine and Public Health Committee on Academic Staff Issues (CASI) is the only committee in the school that deals exclusively with issues of concern to academic staff.
History
SMPH CASI formed in 2000 following the campus Academic Staff Assembly’s creation of CASIs in 1998. After a hiatus that began around 2009, SMPH CASI reinvigorated in 2014. In 2019 we conducted two days of professionally-led strategic planning which culminated in our 5-year plan. As we have implemented the plan, we have seen interest grow in serving on the CASI, leading to more competitive elections and additional staff serving both on CASI subcommittees and on schoolwide committees. We are proud to have been instrumental in facilitating the establishment of USIC (University Staff Issues Committee) with whom we continue a partnership. We are grateful and proud of the relationships we have built over the years with the Dean’s Office including with the Dean’s Chief of Staff, Associate Dean for Human Resources (HR), HR Director of Talent Management, the SMPH Communications Team, and the Associate Dean for Diversity and Equity Transformation. It is in part through these relationships that we are able to fulfill our mission, which is to advise the Dean on issues and policies impacting the academic staff.
