The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health’s Academic Planning Council (APC) advises the dean on school programs and budgetary planning, including such matters as:
- Program review and future development or contraction of academic programs within the school
- Strategic planning and long-range planning for the school
- Any other factors relevant to the capacity of the school to fulfill its mission
- Any program decisions likely to affect promotions to tenure or nonrenewal of probationary faculty appointments
The council advises the dean on such matters and presents departmental and school-wide views and opinions. Members are elected for three-year terms.
SMPH Bylaws
The School of Medicine and Public Health Bylaws (pdf) provide information about the school’s governing structure, as well as general information including the school’s mission, vision, values and diversity commitment.
Upcoming SMPH APC Meetings
The SMPH APC usually meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 8-9 a.m. in the Harting-Mullins Conference Room – Room 4201. Materials are due three weeks prior to the meeting.

Approval by Additional Governance Bodies
Some proposals approved by the SMPH APC require additional approval by the University Academic Planning Council and/or the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee.
