Different actions for I-9s are needed for paid employees in certain situations:

Hire
• No I-9 in COMPLI-9
• Historical I-9, international employee, expired documents
• Historical I-9, international employee, valid documents, break in service
• Historical I-9, citizen or permanent resident, break in service
• Non-Historical I-9, international employee, expired documents, previous I-9 completed more than 3 years ago
• Non-Historical I-9, citizen or PR, break in service, previous I-9 completed more than 3 years ago

Reverify (Rehire)
• Non-Historical I-9, citizen or permanent resident, break in service, previous I-9 complete less than 3 years ago

Reverification (Work Authorization)
• Non-Historical I-9, international employee, expired documents, previous I-9 completed less than 3 years ago

Will the future employee need to complete a background check for this position?

A new background check is required when the position meets all of these criteria:
• Paid
• Faculty (FA), Academic Staff (AS), University Staff (CP or CJ), or Student Assistant (SA)
• No previous UW employment or employee is returning to UW employment after 12 months or longer and has previously completed a background check
