There are four options for faculty tracks at UWSMPH: Tenure track, Clinical Health Sciences track, Clinician-Teacher track and the Clinical Adjunct track. UW-Madison only recognizes the tenure track faculty as full faculty members of the university. The other categories of UWSMPH faculty are considered academic staff according to UW-Madison policies. Therefore, the policies that govern these faculty are the UW-Madison Academic Staff Policies and Procedures.
The tenure track is the traditional university track where faculty are hired with the expectation that they will successfully launch an independent research career in six years. If they succeed in this task they will be promoted to associate professor with tenure.
The clinical health sciences track faculty spend more than 50 percent of their time in clinical/public health duties and must be promoted to associate professor by the end of their eighth year.
The clinician-teacher track faculty are primarily clinicians who work with learners in their clinical practices.
The clinical adjunct track faculty are community clinicians who volunteer their time to aid in the training of learners.
