Diversity is central to the mission of the School of Medicine and Public Health in meeting the health needs of the people of Wisconsin and beyond through excellence in education, research, patient care, and service.
Increasing the diversity of our student, faculty and staff populations has long been an acknowledged strategy employed by SMPH to fulfill our social responsibility mission by addressing health disparities. More learners who identify with an under-represented minority group (URM), or are committed to working in underserved areas mean more health care providers serving those populations and geographies.
The substantial investment that the School of Medicine and Public Health has made in diversity has resulted in measurable advances in the depth and breadth of faculty, staff and learners from underrepresented backgrounds.
