‘Twas the week before New Years and all through the school
By Dean Robert N. Golden, MD
‘Twas the week before New Years and all through the school
Things were quite quiet, an exception to the rule
There was time for reflection, looking back at the year
Planning for new chapters as changes draw near
We welcomed new students, who are always inspiring
Said goodbye to great leaders as they were retiring
Our researchers broke records for new grants awarded
A great year for donor gifts was also recorded
It was a tough year for our state and for our nation
As election emotions sparked alienation
But we stayed together, supporting each other
Embracing each peer like a sister or a brother.
Now predicting the future for the upcoming year
Is tricky, but a few things are quite clear.
There will be changes coming from Washington DC
Federal funding, federal policies what will they be?
And here on our campus, much is afoot.
New models for budgets and WorkDay to boot
But our strong commitment to our values and vision
Will push forward our shared SMPH mission!
Although Badger football was a bit disappointing
Soon a new dean you will be anointing!
They’ll be here soon, and before you know it
You’ll have a great new dean and a much better poet.
So to you and to yours here’s my very best cheer:
Be healthy. Stay warm. And have a Happy New Year!
