Call for applications: Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Development

The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health invites internal applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Development (ADFAD) in the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH). The Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Development is a 50-80% appointment. The primary responsibilities focus on developing, implementing, and assessing faculty development programs, the management of faculty promotions and awards, and other aspects of faculty affairs. The ADFAD provides leadership, vision, and oversight for programs aimed at enhancing faculty engagement, satisfaction, retention, and mission-aligned growth to meet school strategic goals, campus initiatives, state and federal guidelines, and national accreditation standards.

The ADFAD supports faculty development across all missions and departments in the school in all tracks, including statewide faculty. They work to help faculty across all disciplines and at all levels develop to their fullest potential. The individual in this position supports faculty career growth by helping to create and elevate a respectful, inclusive, professional, and anti-racist environment that promotes career growth and satisfaction, as well as personal wellness and enrichment.

The ADFAD directly oversees the SMPH Office for Faculty Affairs and Development. The ADFAD reports to the Dean or the Dean’s designee and works in close partnership with other Associate and Senior Associate Deans, Department Chairs, and institutional leaders who support and supervise faculty, including the Chief Human Resources Officer.

Requirements

Requirements include an MD, MD/PhD degree(s) or equivalent terminal degree, and a current appointment of associate or full professor in the tenure or CHS track at the School of Medicine and Public Health; extensive experience developing and mentoring tenure track and non-tenure track medical school faculty; a history of demonstrated success developing effective faculty development programs; a national reputation in faculty development and/or education practice and theory; and an understanding of trends in academic medicine with an emphasis on faculty development.
