Nominations sought for Health Equity Activation Team committee

The SMPH Medical Education Office is inviting any faculty or staff member who has an interest in diversity, equity and inclusion curriculum as related to medical student education to apply for a volunteer position on the Health Equity Activation Team (HEAT). HEAT is a committee of faculty, staff and students who have focused on health equity within the ForWard curriculum for almost 8 years. The team is now undertaking a curriculum review based on the new AAMC DEI Competencies in order to implement improvements in the ForWard curriculum. Additionally, HEAT, along with our course directors, is tasked with looking at and improving how our medical student curriculum sustain a learning culture that embraces respect, diversity and collaboration and addresses issues related to DEI in learning materials, such as cases and didactics.

HEAT is an integral part of the fabric of UWSMPH and serves as a conduit for promotion as well as personal and institutional growth. This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference in the education of future physicians.  HEAT members are expected to attend a monthly 1-hour meeting on Wednesday afternoon and participate in the equity and inclusion curriculum building and review, working collaboratively with each other and course leadership.

If you would like to be considered for a 2-year term, please submit a brief paragraph describing your interest and any experiences you have within DEI and/or medical student education by December 10, 2021. Please submit your statement of interest to Mrs. Roxane Olsen at rroslen@wisc.edu.

If you have questions about this opportunity, please contact Dr. Maha Mohamed, Equity & Inclusion Curriculum Director, at mmohamed2@wisc.edu.
